About Artist Dan Max
Everything in my practice is made of standard white paper. With few exceptions, everything is made with 2ply white vellum sheets measuring 19x24”. the paper is a common art store staple normally sold in pads of 20 sheets costing $19 per pad.
Rip saws, screw drivers, knives, tape, and various other tools usually associated with the home workshop are used to make direct cuts and shreds into the smooth, tranquil surface of the paper. This is a demonstration of the material’s strength and flexibility. A sheet of paper is not exclusively a surface to put marks on but a unique presence in itself.
In the process of making things from paper, there are various results in form and distribution - flat wall pieces, loops, strips, tracks, transits, troughs, units, ducts, cartons, conduits, trestles, gutters and other PAPER PRODUCTS.
Following many decades of working in other mediums, I began in the paper products in the early 1990’s.
